The Brighter Futures Programme provides quality training with hands-on involvement across key areas of the business, investing in our people to develop skills necessary to become the future managers of Dawn Meats.

Who We Are

Our Graduates

Joined Dawn Meats in September 2015.

The Dawn Meats Graduate Programme got my attention during a careers fair at my university thanks to the diverse choice of career paths and flexibility being offered within an agri-food business. The first exciting step in my journey with Dawn Meats was to move to Ireland to spend six months at their retail packing and burger making facility in Waterford. I got the opportunity to work in a fast-paced business and see different departments from the intake of the meat to the final product being dispatched, the factory floor and the offices. I had the chance to be involved with exciting product improvement projects which involved various levels of management and taught me invaluable project management skills.

After this I was relocated to a primal site to gain a full understanding of the beef production process. I spent 6 months on the floor learning about production which is a vital aspect of progression within the company. During this time I had exposure to the lean management process, which I found very interesting. Thanks to my interest I was subsequently given the opportunity to follow this more, learning as much as possible and gain a green belt level qualification. This is allowing me to cover the maternity leave of the sites Continuous Improvement officer, an exciting new role for me. Before that starts I have been moved to sales which encompasses all aspects of the business which ties in everything I have learnt so far as well as allowing me to practice my French language skills. This, like everything else I have done with Dawn so far, has been another very valuable, rewarding and challenging experience for me.

Thanks to the flexibility of the programme I have been given numerous opportunities which have allowed me to see what areas I am best suited for and develop as a professional. I am excited to see what the future has in store for me with Dawn Meats.

Joined Dawn Meats in July 2013.

What attracted me to the programme was the opportunity to gain knowledge and experience right across the beef supply chain as well as the numerous travel opportunities within the group. Given the growth opportunities identified by Food Harvest 2020 for the beef sector, my key ambition is to be trained in a sector which has long term potential.

My first placement on the programme was in production, which allowed me to get excellent core production experience in one of our primal plants. This production experience is at the core of the programme and is essential as you progress in your career. In late September I was moved to my second placement working in New Product Development in our retail packaging plant in Wales. In this role, I worked directly with one of the largest retailers in the UK giving me fantastic exposure to the FMCG sector. After spending 7 months in this role I was moved back to Ireland to another role in Sales. In this role, I am involved in managing the day to day operations of one of our largest Regional areas. This role, once I am fully trained, will allow me numerous travel opportunities around Europe to our various customers.

What I like most about the programme is the exposure to different departments which you are given. This exposure allows you to see which area you are best suited to which will help when you decide which career path you want to pursue.

I began my journey with Dawn Meats in May 2012 on a 6-month work placement for my University course. I then went on to join the Graduate Scheme in June 2013. Over the last few years I have progressed from the Graduate Scheme to become an Assistant Technical Manager. One of the key benefits to working for Dawn Meats is that I get exposure to all aspects of quality and food safety associated with a busy food production site. Within my role, I enjoy working to deadlines and regularly being part of customer audits.

What I like most about working for Dawn Meats is the variation, there are lots of activities to get involved with on site, including social clubs and dedicated weeks to raise awareness of Health and Safety, as well as the Environment and how we can make our business more sustainable. With the business constantly evolving I look forward to the future with Dawn Meats.

The Programme is structured to provide you with an opportunity to develop your skills and experiences over a range of disciplines in a 2 year period.

With no pre-conceived ideas and no limit on your career path, your skills and experiences can be uniquely tailored to the multitude of career opportunities within Dawn Meats.

We recognise the importance of continuous development and work closely with recognised Management Development Institutes in Ireland and the UK to develop our Graduates as managers of the future.
